Born in Toronto, Raj Dhatt-Wang moved to Chongqing, China in 2022 to teach, but discovered her passion at a local flower market instead. Visiting the floral market every weekend turned into taking floral arrangement classes and attending a professional floral academy. Her passion grew alongside her mastery and artistry, and converged with her desire to continuously learn and share the same joy she receives from nature and art. Now back in Toronto, she has created Petal and Pour as an independent floral art studio, creating and collaborating within the Greater Toronto Area.

Shaped by our experiences studying and working in Asia redefined our understanding of what flowers could be, exploring the intersection of floristry and art. We are drawn to a different approach to floristry—one that feels more intentional, expressive, and culturally connected to nature. 

Inspired by the Chinese concept of zìrán (自然), which directly translates to 'nature', in a way that unfolds of its own accord. Our arrangements are composed to reflect the way flowers grow and coexist in nature: irregular, responsive, and alive. Although every element is carefully considered, the underlying structure remains deliberately discreet. The result feels as though the flowers have been freshly gathered from a garden and brought together with instinctive ease, while beneath that apparent spontaneity lies a rigorous study of proportion, rhythm, asymmetric, colour, and form. Zìrán is therefore not simply an imitation of nature, but a refined interpretation of its inherent poetry. It appears effortless, yet remains profoundly intentional in design.

Our design language continues to evolve through an ongoing dialogue with Japanese Sogetsu and the traditions of Chinese floral art, whose distinctive concepts of line, space, and materiality offer enduring sources of inspiration for scaled installations. We believe that the essence of floral artistry lies in continuous learning of the philosophies and aesthetic languages of different cultures. Our approach is sculptural and refined, yet harmonious and deeply alive.
